THE SUMMER OF STRIPES…
Welcome to my first blog! As I write this, the sun is blazing in our London garden and it felt like I should start with a fashion trend that fits with the brilliant weather.
I’m talking about stripes – a style that I have always worn and loved. I grew up in a place called Salcombe in Devon, which is a beautiful sailing town. Pretty much everyone wears stripes! Interesting fashion fact – it’s also home to the very first Jack Wills store.
So I guess my love of stripes started at an early age. The classic item in any stripe-lover’s wardrobe is the breton top. Historically, the top was designed so that sailors could be more easily spotted if they fell into the sea. This stand-out quality still remains to this day, with a breton top being a bonafide timeless fashion classic.
The market is saturated with fashion’s takes on the breton but I found the best quality and fit for me are from the following brands: Armor-lux (supplier of my first ever breton top) Saint James, and Boden The latter gets playful with its bretons with fun touches like the glitter spot.
Thanks for reading. Now you must excuse me, I’ve heard H&M has some new stripes in store. I feel a shopping trip coming on…
